Our Animals

At Who Knows? Farms, we’re all about raising happy, healthy animals. From their first steps to their final days, we focus on top-notch care, quality feed, and plenty of space to roam. Some of our animals have been with us for years, becoming more like family. Join us for a quick tour to meet a few of these beloved barnyard characters and learn how we keep their lives as vibrant and fulfilling as possible.

Meet the Flock

From day one, our poultry is treated with the utmost care and respect. Our chicks arrive in small, peeping boxes from Murray McMurray, a family-owned hatchery that’s been in business for over 100 years. They’ve been our go-to for quality birds since the beginning of our hobby farming journey 17 years ago.

Over the years, we’ve fine-tuned our flock to include the breeds that thrive in our cold, high-altitude environment. We focus on heavy and dual-purpose breeds that forage well and handle the cold, like Orpingtons, Rhode Island Reds, Bielefelders, and Black Australorps. Most of our hens lay rich, brown eggs, but we also have Easter Eggers and some white layers as well.

We’ve also raised turkeys, ducks, and geese over the years, with plans to welcome more in the future. These feathered friends have brought us countless lessons and a whole lot of joy, and we’re excited to share their stories as our journey continues.

Meet the Sheep

Sheep have been part of our farm life for over seven years, teaching us a thing or two about resilience and reward. While they can keep us on our toes - from the unpredictable nature of lambing to the occasional pasture escape- they’re also a constant source of peace and purpose.

We’ve worked hard to build a strong, healthy flock, selecting good mothers and hardy lambs that thrive in our high-altitude environment. Our lambs are born on pasture and learn to graze as soon as they can stand, benefiting from our rotational grazing program that keeps parasites in check without the need for chemical dewormers. When nature needs a little nudge, we opt for natural supplements like diatomaceous earth (learn more about this in our feed section).

We also avoid antibiotics, ensuring that the lamb you buy from us is 100% natural and free from unnecessary chemicals – just the way we believe it should be.

Pasture-raised pigs

Pasture-raised pork may sound like a new concept to some, but the difference it makes in both flavor and quality is night and day. Unlike conventional pork, which is often pale, bland, and raised in large-scale indoor facilities, our pigs enjoy the freedom to roam and forage in the sun, just as nature intended.

Traditional pig farming often relies heavily on grain feed, leaving the meat with a lack of flavor and nutrients. In contrast, our pigs spend their days grazing on fresh pasture, where they can root, wallow, and absorb the vitamins and minerals they need from the soil. This results in pork that’s rich in flavor, color, and nutrients – the way pork was meant to be.
